PTA has instructed all mobile network operators to take clear and prior permission from customers before activating any Value-Added Services (VAS). This decision comes after growing complaints from users about unauthorized deductions from their mobile balances.
According to the new directive, telecom companies must ensure that subscribers give proper and clear consent before any additional service is turned on.
These services may include caller tunes, alerts, subscription packages, or other extra features that charge users regularly. The PTA wants to make sure that no service is activated without the full knowledge of the customer.
Consumers have also been advised to regularly check and manage their subscriptions using official mobile apps or helplines provided by their service providers. This will help them avoid unwanted charges and keep track of any active services linked to their numbers.
In addition, the PTA has introduced the Mobile Tariff Regulations, 2025. Under these rules, telecom operators that hold Significant Market Power must seek official approval before making any changes to their tariffs or pricing structures. This step is aimed at promoting fairness and preventing sudden or unfair price increases.
The authority says these measures are designed to protect consumer rights, increase transparency, and strengthen trust between mobile operators and customers.
By enforcing clear consent and stricter tariff regulations, the PTA hopes to reduce complaints and ensure a more customer-friendly telecom environment across the country.
