NUST Formula Student Team to Build Hybrid Vehicle With Tesla’s Help for Next Year’s Competition

NUST’s Formula Student Team (NFST), renowned for its success in the Formula Student Competition in the UK, has embarked on an innovative project with the support of electric car giant Tesla.

Unlike their past ventures involving combustion engine cars, NFST is currently focused on constructing a hybrid vehicle. This new project incorporates a Honda CBR 600 F4i motorcycle engine in a rear-wheel-drive setup, complemented by a 60-volt Lithium-ion battery pack, with Tesla contributing the battery management system.

The battery management system plays a crucial role in controlling the voltage and temperature of the batteries, ensuring optimal performance and usability when the vehicle’s motor draws power from the battery pack. This collaboration with Tesla is expected to streamline the development process, given Tesla’s expertise in electric vehicle technology.

NFST is aiming to complete the construction of the hybrid vehicle between March and April 2024, with plans to participate in the competition scheduled for July of the same year. The inclusion of Tesla in this venture is seen as a groundbreaking moment for innovation at NUST, and the partnership is anticipated to elevate NFST’s standing on the global stage.

The team expresses pride in securing Tesla’s sponsorship, highlighting it as a significant achievement for NUST. As the longest-running and most prestigious university team in Pakistan, NFST’s consistent victories in Formula Student events have consistently brought pride to the nation. The collaboration with Tesla is expected to open up new avenues for success.

In a recent Formula Student UK 2023 Concept Class event, NFST achieved notable success by securing the 1st position in the Lap Time Simulation event, which evaluates a car’s handling capabilities and speed on a simulated race track.

NFST secured the 6th position in the design and cost categories, emphasizing the team’s strong engineering and cost-effectiveness in vehicle development. This success further underscores NFST’s capabilities and sets the stage for future achievements with Tesla’s support.
