Officials Claim Islamabad Safe City Cameras are Not Using Isr_aeli Software

Officials have clarified that the video analytics software of Israeli origin, which was previously used as part of Islamabad’s Safe City project, has not been in operation since October 2022. The software, known as BriefCam, was implemented on a temporary basis from June 2021 to October 2022 under the services of Canon Japan. Its use was limited to this period, and following the expiration of its license, the software was formally discontinued.

Authorities stressed that the city’s surveillance cameras are currently operating without the BriefCam software, addressing public concerns about the involvement of foreign technology in local security infrastructure. This step reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that public safety projects are managed transparently and responsibly.

The statement also highlights the critical importance of regular audits, careful oversight, and clear communication when selecting and retiring technologies in government-led initiatives. By sharing this information, officials aim to reinforce public trust and demonstrate accountability in the deployment of technology for urban safety and monitoring.
