OGDCL Discover New Gas Reserves in Sindh

OGDCL, the top exploration and production company in Pakistan, has announced the discovery of new natural gas reserves at the Shahu-1 well in Khairpur, Sindh. This find, located in the Sawan South Block, is expected to produce about 10 million standard cubic feet of gas each day.

This discovery, which was made on August 18, 2024, is significant for Pakistan’s energy security as it helps increase the country’s supply of natural gas and boosts local hydrocarbon reserves. OGDCL’s efforts in exploring new reserves contribute to reducing reliance on imported energy sources.

The company is optimistic about the potential for more discoveries in the area, especially as they continue their exploration activities with their joint venture partners. This positive outlook is supported by OGDCL’s recent financial performance, as they reported a profit-after-tax of Rs208.98 billion for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2024.

This strong financial result reflects the company’s successful operations and commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s energy landscape. As the demand for energy continues to grow, discoveries like the one at the Shahu-1 well play a crucial role in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply for the future. Overall, OGDCL’s discovery is a promising step toward achieving greater energy independence for Pakistan.
