OGDCL Discovers Oil & Gas Reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well, located in the Nashpa Block of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The company shared the news with the Pakistan Stock Exchange, highlighting the significance of the find for Pakistan’s energy sector.

The discovery was made in the Lumshiwal formation after conducting a cased hole drill stem test, a method used to measure the potential of the reservoir.

Initial production from the well has been encouraging, with 225 barrels of oil produced per day and around 1.01 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. These results indicate that the site has strong potential to contribute to the country’s energy needs.

OGDCL owns a 65 percent share in the Nashpa Block, while other stakeholders include Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Government Holdings (Private) Limited.

The collaboration between these companies ensures proper management and development of the block, with the aim of boosting Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas production.

Officials said that the discovery will help strengthen local energy reserves and reduce reliance on imported oil and gas. It also highlights OGDCL’s ongoing exploration efforts and commitment to increasing Pakistan’s self-sufficiency in energy resources.

Industry analysts view this find as a positive step for the national energy sector, potentially supporting economic growth and energy security in the region. Continued development of the well and surrounding areas is expected to further enhance production in the coming months.
