OpenAI announced on Wednesday that Sam Altman will return as CEO, just days after his removal. The decision comes after intense discussions about the future of the AI-focused startup.
Altman, who was dismissed last week due to concerns about his leadership, will now resume his role as CEO. Co-founder Greg Brockman also resigned after Altman’s sacking.
Besides Altman’s return, the company has agreed to partially reconstitute the board of directors. Former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor and former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers will join Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo as directors.
Altman’s dismissal had raised uncertainty for both OpenAI and Microsoft, which moved quickly to control the damage by vowing to hire Altman and Brockman.
