Pakistan has reopened the Torkham border crossing after being closed for nearly two weeks, allowing Afghan refugees to return to their home country.
The reopening followed recent border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan and a ceasefire agreement reached in Doha to ease tensions.
According to officials, the repatriation process has now resumed in an organized and safe manner. Thousands of Afghan citizens who had been waiting near the border are being allowed to cross back into Afghanistan.
The government has stated that the entire operation is being carried out with dignity and respect for all returning families.
Authorities have also arranged temporary shelters, food, and medical facilities for those crossing the border, ensuring that vulnerable individuals, including women and children, receive proper care.
Security personnel and aid workers are present on-site to assist refugees and maintain order during the process.
In addition to Torkham, more than 10,000 Afghan nationals crossed into Afghanistan through the Chaman border in a single day, highlighting the large number of people seeking to return.
Officials noted that the repatriation is being closely monitored to avoid overcrowding and ensure smooth movement.
However, trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan remains suspended for now. The government has said that commercial activity will only resume after a detailed security review and mutual coordination between both sides.
The reopening of the Torkham border marks a significant step toward stabilizing cross-border relations, with hopes that continued dialogue and cooperation will prevent future tensions and ensure peace along the shared frontier.
