Pablo Picasso’s famous painting from 1932, “Femme à la montre,” sold for over $139 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York, making it the most valuable artwork auctioned globally this year.
This masterpiece, once owned by philanthropist Emily Fisher Landau, is now the second most expensive Picasso painting ever auctioned, following “Les femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’),” which sold for $179.3 million in 2015.
The painting shows Picasso’s lover, Marie-Thérèse Walter, sitting with a wristwatch against a blue background, providing a glimpse into the artist’s personal life.
