Pakistan and Iran Aim to Boost Trade to Remarkable $5 billion

Pakistan and Iran have set a $5 billion target for bilateral trade as they plan to enhance cooperation over the next five years. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced the trade cooperation plan aimed at boosting trade and finalizing a Free Trade Agreement.

The two countries will also establish institutional linkages between their private sectors. The foreign ministers of both countries held a joint press conference in Islamabad to discuss these initiatives and their plans for operationalizing border markets.

They also addressed issues related to prisoners’ repatriation, human rights in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and their commitment to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan. Additionally, they condemned Islamophobia and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and tourism.

The completion of the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline was also emphasized as a project serving the national interests of both countries. They signed agreements and MoUs in various fields to foster cooperation between the two nations.
