Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to start a police training exchange programme to strengthen professional cooperation between the two countries.
This decision was made during a high-level meeting in Riyadh between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif. Both leaders reviewed the existing security relationship and discussed new ways to improve coordination between their institutions.
The two sides also talked about the situation of Rohingya Muslims living in Saudi Arabia. They agreed that the issue requires careful handling and that discussions should continue.
For this purpose, both countries will hold further dialogue through the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia Interior Ministries Working Group, which is expected to meet next month.
During his regional tour, Minister Mohsin Naqvi also travelled to Qatar where he met with the Qatari Interior Minister. Their meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in several areas, especially maritime security, coastal safety and joint efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Naqvi appreciated Qatar’s support in helping Pakistan set up a new firing range at the National Police Academy. He also invited the Qatari minister to visit Pakistan to see the progress of ongoing security initiatives.
Officials say these meetings reflect Pakistan’s efforts to build stronger security partnerships with Gulf countries. By improving training, sharing expertise, and coordinating on regional challenges, Pakistan hopes to enhance its internal security systems. Both Saudi Arabia and Qatar expressed willingness to work closely with Pakistan, showing their commitment to long-term cooperation.
The upcoming working group meeting and continued diplomatic engagement are expected to bring more clarity and help develop practical steps for future collaboration.
