Pakistan Announces Day of Mourning Over Death of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf

Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has passed away at the age of 86, as announced by the royal court.

He assumed power in September 2020 following the death of his brother, Sheikh Sabah.

Sheikh Nawaf was known as a consensus builder, but his reign faced challenges, including a standoff between the government and elected parliament.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who has been the de facto ruler since 2021, was named as Sheikh Nawaf’s successor.

World leaders have expressed condolences to the Al Sabah family and the people of Kuwait.
