Pakistan Announces Public Holidays for Eid ul-Azha

The Government of Pakistan has officially declared a four-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid ul-Azha, one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. The announcement came following the approval of the holiday schedule by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the notification, the holidays will span from Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9, 2025. During this period, all government and private offices, banks, and educational institutions across the country will remain closed, allowing citizens to celebrate the festival with their families and communities.

Eid ul-Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, holds deep religious significance for Muslims around the world. It commemorates the unwavering faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to God’s command. The festival is traditionally observed with special prayers, the ritual sacrifice of animals, and acts of charity toward those in need.

The extended holiday is expected to provide a convenient travel window for many Pakistanis planning to return to their hometowns or visit relatives. Additionally, the long weekend is likely to give a boost to domestic tourism, with increased activity expected in various travel and hospitality sectors.

Officials have urged the public to observe safety and cleanliness guidelines during the holiday, especially in the handling of sacrificial animals and public gatherings.
