The federal government has announced that July 5 and 6 (Saturday and Sunday) will be public holidays in honor of Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram this year. These days are set aside to remember and pay tribute to the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who gave their lives in the Battle of Karbala.
During these days, people across the country hold religious gatherings and processions to honor the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and to reflect on the values of justice, truth, and bravery. To allow citizens to take part in these commemorations with respect and peace, all public and private offices, schools, and institutions will remain closed.
In Karachi, the Traffic Police have announced a special traffic plan for Muharram 8 to 10 to manage the expected crowds and processions. Key routes will be closed or redirected to make way for the Ashura processions, especially the main route from Nishtar Park to Hussainia Iranian Imambargah.
One of the main roads, MA Jinnah Road, will be closed during this time for security reasons. Citizens are advised to follow the traffic updates and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
The government and law enforcement agencies are working to ensure that the Ashura events are held in a safe and organized manner. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the authorities and maintain peace and respect during the holy days.
