Pakistan Climbs to 7th Globally After a Successful 5G Spectrum Auction

Pakistan has made a significant leap in the global telecom rankings, rising to 7th place among comparable markets after the IMT spectrum auction held on 10 March 2026. Previously ranked 14th, the country’s position improved thanks to a substantial addition of 480 MHz of spectrum.

This increase raised Pakistan’s total assigned spectrum from 274 MHz to 754 MHz, giving it an edge over countries such as Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, and Bangladesh, and bringing it closer to leaders like India and South Africa.

The auction was participated in by Pakistan’s major telecom operators, including Jazz, Ufone, and Zong. Each of these companies acquired additional spectrum to expand their 5G networks and broadband capacity. This means that consumers can expect faster internet speeds, better connectivity, and improved digital services across the country.

The auction also generated significant revenue for Pakistan, bringing in USD 507 million. This funding will support further investments in network infrastructure and next-generation mobile technology, helping the country keep pace with the rapidly evolving global telecom industry.

Experts say the additional spectrum will strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem, enabling new services, better online experiences, and economic growth. It will also help the country meet the rising demand for high-speed internet, remote work solutions, digital education, and smart city initiatives.
