Pakistan Exporters Secure $3 Billion Orders at World’s Largest Textile Trade Fair

Pakistani exporters have achieved a significant milestone by securing export orders worth $3 billion at Heimtextil, the world’s largest textile trade fair held in Frankfurt, Germany. This accomplishment is a major success for Pakistan’s textile sector and is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the industry, especially in Faisalabad, which is one of the country’s key textile hubs.

Imran Mehmood, the Central Chairman of the All Pakistan Bedsheet and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA), highlighted the importance of these orders, emphasizing their potential to revitalize the sector. He noted that the government has set an ambitious goal to increase exports from the current $30 billion to $100 billion over the next five years. Achieving this target, however, requires immediate action to address key challenges faced by the textile industry.

Mehmood pointed out that rising costs of electricity, gas, and raw materials like yarn are putting immense pressure on the industry, making it harder for Pakistan to compete in global markets. He urged the government to take swift measures to reduce these costs and improve the overall competitiveness of the sector.

He also stressed the crucial role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth. According to him, providing low-interest loans to SMEs could enhance production capacity, create more jobs, and strengthen the sector’s contribution to Pakistan’s economy. To ensure transparency in this process, he suggested involving the State Bank of Pakistan along with APBUMA to oversee loan disbursement.

This milestone achievement at Heimtextil not only reflects the potential of Pakistan’s textile industry but also highlights the urgent need for government support to overcome existing challenges. With the right policies and initiatives, the sector could significantly boost Pakistan’s economic growth and improve its standing in international trade.
