Pakistan’s Airport Authority is dealing with significant financial losses due to the inactivity of eight airports, including those in Bannu, Dalbandin, and Parachinar. Even though these airports are not operational, staff are still stationed there, resulting in ongoing salary payments and operational costs every month.
To address these financial difficulties, Pakistan has decided to outsource three of its major airports. Recently, a Turkish company received technical approval for managing Islamabad International Airport, marking a key step in this outsourcing plan.
Despite the current situation, the Pakistan Airports Authority has assured the public that flight safety remains a top priority. They are also committed to ensuring the availability of air services throughout the country. Additionally, they pointed out that these inactive airports could still be useful for receiving foreign dignitaries or for handling diverted flights in the future.
The move to outsource major airports is part of Pakistan’s effort to reduce financial strain while maintaining essential aviation services.
