The federal government has introduced important changes to make travel easier and safer for Pakistani pilgrims going to Iran and Iraq.
Starting from January 1, 2026, the old Salar system will be replaced with a new registered Group Organizer System. This change aims to improve the safety, organization, and accountability of pilgrim groups. All group organizers must now register officially, and strict action will be taken against those operating without permission.
To support pilgrims during Arbaeen, 107 special flights to Iraq have been planned. In addition, the number of weekly flights to Iran has increased from 6 to 15, making it easier for more people to travel.
The government is also considering launching a ferry service to offer another travel option for pilgrims. So far, over 1,400 applications have been received from those wishing to register as group organizers under the new system.
Authorities have made it clear that illegal or unregistered travel operators will face strict penalties. This step is being taken to protect pilgrims from fraud and ensure they receive proper support during their journeys. Land routes will also be reviewed after the Ashura period to further improve travel arrangements.
These reforms are part of a larger plan to make religious travel more secure, comfortable, and well-managed.
By introducing new systems and increasing travel options, the government hopes to give pilgrims a better experience and reduce the risks associated with unorganized or illegal travel arrangements.
