Pakistan recently attained the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings after a convincing 3-0 series victory against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. With the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash looming at the 2023 Asia Cup, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s cricket team during a pre-match press conference.
Sharma praised Pakistan’s incredible journey to becoming the No. 1 team in the ICC ODI rankings, acknowledging their unwavering commitment and hard work. He emphasized that achieving this pinnacle is a remarkable milestone, solidifying Pakistan as a formidable cricketing force.
Sharma also highlighted Pakistan’s consistent performance in recent years, whether in T20 World Cups or 50-over cricket and noted the challenge they pose. He also addressed Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack, expressing India’s intention to leverage their experience when facing Pakistan’s trio of fast bowlers, even though they may not have exact replicas in their practice nets.
Regarding Pakistan’s potent bowling attack and India’s preparation to face them, Rohit explained that they would adapt their training to face the available bowlers and utilize their extensive international experience against Pakistan’s trio of talented fast bowlers.
“While we may not have the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf in our practice nets, we are prepared to train against the bowlers we have access to. All three of them are exceptional bowlers who have consistently performed at a high level. Pakistan has always possessed remarkable bowling talent, and we’ve thoroughly analyzed their strengths and bowling styles. Leveraging our extensive international experience, we aim to apply our knowledge when facing them; it’s as straightforward as that,” he added.
Eventually, Sharma’s comments reflect the respect and anticipation surrounding the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket clash.
