Pakistan Launches E-Passports Services to Replace Traditional Physical Passports

Pakistan has taken a significant step towards modernizing its passport issuance system by launching e-passport services to replace the traditional physical passports. The move aims to enhance security, convenience, and efficiency for travelers. The e-passport system incorporates advanced biometric technology, including a microprocessor chip, which securely stores the traveler’s personal information, photo, and fingerprints.

This initiative aligns with global trends in digital identification and aims to reduce the risk of identity fraud and passport forgery. The microprocessor chip within the e-passport ensures a higher level of security by encrypting the stored data, making it harder to counterfeit or tamper with.

The e-passport services are expected to streamline the passport application and renewal processes, minimizing bureaucratic hurdles and long waiting times. It is also anticipated to facilitate international travel by providing quicker immigration and border control procedures, enhancing the overall travel experience for Pakistani citizens.

As part of the launch, the government has introduced various options for citizens to choose from, including both ten-year validity and five-year validity e-passports. These options cater to different travel needs and preferences.

The introduction of e-passport services underscores Pakistan’s commitment to embracing digital innovation to modernize its public services. It reflects the government’s efforts to stay current with global technological advancements and improve the country’s standing in the international travel community.
