Pakistan is observing the 9th of Muharram with great respect and devotion, paying tribute to the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.
Religious gatherings (majalis) and processions are being held across the country, with strict security measures in place to ensure the safety of participants. In Punjab alone, more than 147,000 police officers have been deployed, including over 10,000 in Lahore.
Karachi has also made strong security arrangements. Around 14,546 police personnel are assigned to guard the majalis, while 35,116 officers are protecting the processions. To maintain law and order, Section 144 has been enforced, and a ban on pillion riding is in effect in many cities.
More than 62,000 community volunteers are also helping out with crowd management and providing support during the events.
For the first time, a mobile control room has been set up in Islamabad to monitor the situation in real time. Authorities have also sealed important roads near the main procession routes to prevent any security threats and ensure the smooth flow of the events.
These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to protecting the sanctity of Muharram while keeping citizens safe. Police forces, local administrations, and volunteers are working together to provide a peaceful environment for mourners to observe the day.
The 9th of Muharram is a time for reflection, remembrance, and unity, and people across Pakistan are taking part in the commemorations with deep respect and religious spirit.
