Pakistan Officially Boycott Hockey Asia Cup in India

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that the national men’s hockey team will not take part in the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is set to be held in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 27 to September 7.

The PHF explained that the decision was made due to security concerns, stressing that the safety and dignity of its players is the first priority. Even though the Indian government had shown readiness to provide visas and other support, the PHF said the larger political situation could not be ignored. They emphasized that athletes should only compete in an environment where they feel safe and can focus fully on their game.

Because of Pakistan’s withdrawal, Bangladesh will now step in to replace them. This change will allow the tournament to continue with its eight-team format as planned.

PHF officials added that the national team will now turn its attention to preparing for upcoming international competitions. They assured that training and planning will continue, but under conditions where players do not face any risks to their security.

The PHF also highlighted the importance of fair and neutral platforms in international sports. According to them, global tournaments should prioritize player welfare and ensure that every team can perform without pressure or fear.

This move by Pakistan not only underlines the country’s stance on providing safe conditions for athletes but also calls for greater responsibility from sporting bodies to create an atmosphere where sports remain free from political tensions.
