Pakistan Plans 26.5 Tb Per Second Cable Connectivity to Boost Is Internet

Pakistan is working to improve its internet connectivity by expanding access through five international submarine cables and satellite-based services. These submarine cables include AFRICA 1, SMW6, 2AFRICA, PEACE, and Makran Gulf Gateway. Among them, 2AFRICA has already arrived in Pakistan, while the others are still in the planning stage. These cables will help strengthen the country’s internet infrastructure and provide better connectivity.

In addition to undersea cables, the government is also focusing on satellite internet to ensure reliable access across the country, including remote and underserved areas. In 2024, Pakistan introduced the National Space Policy and the Pakistan Space Activities Rules to support the growth of satellite-based internet services. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is working on a Single License framework for Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) to regulate and expand satellite internet services.

To further improve access, the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) is currently reviewing applications from satellite service providers, including Starlink. These initiatives are expected to improve internet access for millions of people, bridging the digital divide and contributing to a more connected Pakistan.
