Pakistan Railways has announced the introduction of a new train service connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi, aiming to provide a faster and more convenient travel option for daily passengers between the twin cities.
The initiative is designed to ease the burden on local transport and offer a safer and more affordable choice for thousands of people who travel daily for work, education, and business. Officials say the service will be especially beneficial during peak hours, reducing travel time and congestion on the roads.
The decision was made after senior government representatives and railways officials reviewed passenger needs and overall railway operations. Security measures were also discussed, particularly for sensitive areas such as Balochistan, where extra precautions are being taken to protect railway infrastructure.
As part of wider reforms, Pakistan Railways is also moving ahead with a large-scale anti-encroachment campaign to recover railway land. This drive will be carried out jointly by the Railways Police and National Constabulary, while additional support will be provided by security agencies.
Federal ministers stressed that the safety of passengers and the protection of railway lines remain top priorities. They noted that recent improvements in railway services have restored public confidence and encouraged more people to choose trains over other modes of transport.
