Pakistan Railways Hit by Rs. 100 Million Housing Scam Involving Fake Allotments

A major Rs. 100 million housing scam has been uncovered in Pakistan Railways, exposing more than 200 fake allotments of residential quarters in Lahore and Mughalpura.

The discovery has raised serious concerns about corruption and misuse of government property within the department.

According to an inquiry conducted by the Directorate General of Vigilance, several railway officials were found involved in creating fake documents, forging signatures, and issuing counterfeit G-10 forms to illegally allot housing units.

These forged papers were then used to claim or rent out official residences meant for genuine railway employees.

Authorities have already arrested several suspects, including a railway clerk accused of playing a key role in producing and distributing the fake documents. The investigation also found that some officials received illegal payments or benefits in exchange for granting these false allotments.

In response, Pakistan Railways has formed a special investigation team to ensure a transparent inquiry and recover financial losses caused by the scam. The team has been directed to identify all those involved from clerks to senior officers and take strict disciplinary and legal action against them.

Officials have also announced plans to digitize the housing allotment system to prevent such frauds in the future. This step aims to improve accountability, ensure fair distribution of residences, and restore public trust in the institution.

The case serves as a reminder of the need for stronger internal controls and strict monitoring within public departments.
