In April 2025, Pakistan experienced one of its hottest and driest months in more than sixty years, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The average temperature across the country rose to 27.91 degrees Celsius, which is much higher than the usual average of 24.54 degrees Celsius for April.
During the day, temperatures were even more extreme, with daytime averages reaching 36.40 degrees Celsius — about 4.66 degrees higher than normal. Nighttime temperatures also stayed warmer than usual, averaging 19.36 degrees Celsius, which is 2.57 degrees above the typical nighttime temperature.
At the same time, rainfall across the country dropped sharply, with 59 percent less rain than usual. This caused a major dry spell, adding to the harsh conditions.
Experts are warning that these extreme weather conditions could make public health problems and agricultural challenges even worse as the summer months approach. Many areas are already seeing a rise in heat-related illnesses, and there are growing concerns about the impact on crops and water supplies if the heat continues to intensify.
