“Pakistan Suffers $130 Billion Loss from Climate Disasters,” PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed that Pakistan has suffered economic losses exceeding $130 billion over the past decade due to devastating climate-related disasters. He made these remarks while addressing an international climate conference, drawing attention to the growing impact of climate change on developing nations.

The Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan contributes less than 1% to global carbon emissions, yet remains among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. He pointed out that recurring floods, droughts, and heatwaves have severely affected agriculture, livelihoods, and infrastructure across the country.

PM Shehbaz urged the international community to honor its climate finance commitments, calling for fair and timely assistance to countries facing the brunt of global warming. He emphasized that financial and technical support is essential to help Pakistan invest in climate resilience, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure.

Highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing recovery efforts, he mentioned the government’s initiatives following the 2022 floods, one of the most catastrophic disasters in the nation’s history. These projects aim to rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and improve disaster preparedness to prevent future losses.

The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development and green growth.

He called for collective global action, reminding the world that tackling climate change requires shared responsibility and urgent cooperation to protect future generations.
