Pakistan has received its largest-ever shipment of crude oil from the United States, marking a new milestone in energy cooperation between the two countries.
The oil tanker MT Pegasus arrived at Cnergyico’s offshore terminal in Balochistan, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude. This is the first commercial import under the new Pakistan-US trade framework, designed to strengthen economic and energy relations between both nations.
Officials said this delivery highlights the growing trust and collaboration between Islamabad and Washington in the energy sector.
It also shows Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy sources by including more global suppliers, reducing dependency on Middle Eastern imports.
Energy experts believe the import will help enhance Pakistan’s energy security and stabilize supply chains amid changing international oil prices. It is seen as part of the country’s broader plan to ensure affordable and reliable energy for both consumers and industries.
The agreement could also open the door for future partnerships between US and Pakistani energy companies, potentially expanding into refining and renewable energy projects.
Officials added that continued cooperation with the United States could help Pakistan modernize its oil infrastructure, increase refining capacity, and strengthen trade relations beyond energy.
The arrival of MT Pegasus marks a significant step in Pakistan’s path toward energy diversification and deeper international partnerships, offering a promising outlook for the nation’s energy and economic future.
