Within less than 10 days since the start of general ticket sales for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, reports from US media have revealed a swift emergence of tickets on resale platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek.
These tickets are commanding prices comparable to those seen for premier sporting events such as the NBA or Major League Baseball.
Sold-out matches like Pakistan vs India in New York on June 9 or India vs Canada on June 15 in Lauderhill are witnessing resale prices soaring to double or even triple their original face value.
Particularly noteworthy is the staggering price hike for VIP tickets to the Pakistan vs India match, which are listed for over $40,000 each. With additional fees, the total price exceeds $50,000. Meanwhile, the cheapest ticket available on StubHub for this match is priced at $1,259, while on SeatGeek, prices reach nearly $175,000.
Despite concerted efforts by the managing committee, a significant number of fans are finding themselves unable to secure tickets for their desired matches due to overwhelming demand.
Fawwaz Baksh, the tournament director, has acknowledged the unfortunate reality that not all applicants will be successful in obtaining tickets, highlighting the logistical challenge of accommodating everyone’s preferences.
Baksh remains optimistic that additional tickets may become available for certain matches if sponsors and other stakeholders return tickets to the pool.
He advises prospective attendees to vigilantly monitor the ticket portal for opportunities to secure tickets for their preferred matches amidst the fervent demand.
This scenario underscores the immense popularity and anticipation surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, cementing its status as a highly coveted sporting event on the global stage.
