Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari has declined the 2025 Wolf Prize in Architecture, which is worth approximately Rs 2.79 crore. She made this decision as a way to express her deep concern for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The Wolf Prize has been awarded in Israel since 1978 and recognizes outstanding achievements in various fields, including architecture. However, Lari felt that accepting the award would not align with her values. She stated that refusing it was “the very least I could do” to show her solidarity.
Yasmeen Lari is widely respected for her dedication to social justice and sustainable architecture. As the founder of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan, she has played a key role in promoting eco-friendly construction. Her efforts have led to the creation of 50,000 self-built shelters and 80,000 energy-efficient cooking stoves for underprivileged communities. Through her work, she continues to make a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
