A major new development is unfolding in Pakistan’s transport sector. Ghandhara Industries Limited (GIL) has signed a strategic deal with China’s Zhongtong Bus Holding Co. Ltd., a well-known global bus manufacturer.
The goal of this collaboration is to introduce Zhongtong’s luxury buses to Pakistan, which might greatly improve the standard of long-distance travel in the country.
Under the agreement, Ghandhara will begin importing fully built (CBU) Zhongtong luxury buses first. The company expects to have these buses available for Pakistani operators and travel companies starting in the first quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, Ghandhara is building a new manufacturing line beside its existing bus body facility. If everything goes according to plan, local assembly and manufacturing of Zhongtong buses will start by mid-2026, once the plant expansion and regulatory approvals are complete.
Zhongtong, founded in 1958, is globally respected for high-quality, fuel-efficient, and comfort-oriented buses. The collaboration with Ghandhara means that Pakistan could soon see significant improvements in intercity and long-route bus services.
Passengers may benefit from better seating, smoother rides, modern safety features, and improved fuel efficiency compared with older bus models.
For Ghandhara, the partnership signals a major expansion of its product portfolio, from assembling trucks and mid-range buses to offering luxury-level coaches.
This could help the company strengthen its position in the commercial vehicle segment and capture rising demand for premium transport options in Pakistan.
