Pakistani Automakers Follow Just 18 of 200 Global Safety Standards

Pakistani car manufacturers are following only 18 out of 200 internationally accepted vehicle safety standards. This shocking detail was shared during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Industry and Production.

Despite selling cars at prices higher than many other countries, local automakers are ignoring many basic and essential safety features. This has led to strong criticism from lawmakers, who expressed concern over the safety of vehicles on Pakistani roads.

Committee Chairman Syed Hafeezuddin pointed out a clear link between unsafe vehicles and the rising number of road accidents. He stated that poor safety standards in locally manufactured cars are putting lives at risk every day.

Members of the committee raised questions about why these vehicles, which are often out of reach for the average citizen due to their high cost, still lack standard features like airbags, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), and crash protection. They emphasized that vehicle safety should not be optional, especially when companies are making huge profits.

Experts believe that stricter regulations and checks are needed to ensure that cars sold in Pakistan meet proper safety guidelines. Many also called on the government to hold manufacturers accountable and push for better quality control.

The committee urged the Ministry of Industries and Production to take serious action and work with stakeholders to improve vehicle safety in the country. They stressed that protecting human life must come before profit.
