Bakhat Muhammad, a tea seller from Soldier Bazar in Karachi, Pakistan, recently won the Fight Night event held in Tehran, Iran. Despite his achievement, he expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the government for sports in the country.
Muhammad, who began learning mixed martial arts (MMA) at the Proficient Academy in Karachi in 2019, made his international debut in Khost, Afghanistan, in August 2021. There, he emerged victorious against Ibrahim Muhammadi (65 kg) at the Khatri Fight Night (KFN), an event organized by the Afghan government.
He also competed in the Asian Fight Night in Peshawar, where he won in the 65-kg category against Umer. His recent win in the Fight Night event, where he defeated Qasim Rahemi, earned him a title.
Despite his success, Muhammad faces challenges in securing sponsorship for international competitions. He often has to rely on individual support due to the lack of financial backing from sponsors.
Muhammad believes that raising awareness about MMA in Pakistan is crucial to attracting sponsors, as the sport is still relatively unknown in the country. Despite the difficulties in securing sponsorships, Muhammad has received support from local businessmen and clubs for his competitions.
