Pakistani mountaineer Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara sadly lost his life when an avalanche hit near Camp 1 on K2 on Friday around 2:30 pm. The Alpine Club of Pakistan confirmed the news and shared that the tragedy happened while a group of climbers was making their way up the world’s second-highest mountain.
A total of four climbers were caught in the avalanche. Luckily, two of them were able to return safely to the base camp. One foreign climber got minor injuries but is now safe and recovering. Sadly, Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara could not survive the powerful snow slide.
After the accident, a Pakistan Army helicopter was sent to bring Sadpara’s body back from the mountain. His body was airlifted to Skardu, where his family and friends gathered to pay their respects.
Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara was well known in Pakistan’s mountaineering community. He was respected for his courage, climbing skills, and his love for the mountains. Many fellow climbers and adventure lovers have shared their sorrow and called his passing a huge loss for the country’s climbing world.
