A Pakistani engineer, Yasir Tufail from Gujrat, has made the nation proud by playing a key role in building NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful space observatory ever created.
Yasir’s journey is one of passion, perseverance, and dreams turned into reality. Growing up in a small village, he was fascinated by stars and space from an early age. That childhood curiosity led him to move to the United States in 2001, where he pursued astronautical engineering at the University of Maryland.
After completing his studies, Yasir joined NASA full-time and worked on several groundbreaking missions, including the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) satellite project.
His expertise and dedication eventually earned him a place on the prestigious James Webb Space Telescope team, a project that has redefined our understanding of the universe.
The James Webb Telescope, launched in December 2021, is known for capturing the deepest images of space ever seen, revealing galaxies formed billions of years ago. Yasir’s contribution to this historic mission stands as a testament to the potential of Pakistani talent on the global stage.
His remarkable journey from Gujrat to NASA continues to inspire countless young Pakistanis who dream of exploring the stars and making their mark in science and technology.
