Pakistani students, researchers and young professionals now have a new opportunity to work and study in China, thanks to the country’s recently announced “K visa.” The special visa category, set to be introduced on 1 October 2025, is designed to attract young foreign talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The K visa is aimed at graduates and experts who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree from top global universities or research institutions. It also welcomes those engaged in teaching or research at leading organizations. Unlike many other visas, applicants will not need a job offer or invitation from China, making it easier for Pakistani talent to explore opportunities.
Holders of the K visa will be able to participate in educational programs, research projects, and cultural exchange initiatives in China. They will also enjoy simplified entry procedures, longer visa validity, and extended stays compared to other categories.
For Pakistan, the new visa is seen as a chance to strengthen academic and research ties with China, while enabling young professionals to gain advanced skills and build international networks in high-tech sectors.
The application process will be managed by China’s Foreign Ministry, Public Security authorities, and embassies or consulates abroad, with additional support provided for residence and stay in the country.
With the launch of the K visa, China adds to its existing range of visa categories, creating a dedicated pathway for global youth and offering Pakistani graduates a fresh route to personal and professional growth.
