Pakistani Rail Worker Awarded with Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Saving 29 Lives

Rizwan Javed, a railway worker of British Pakistani descent, has received significant recognition by being appointed an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire). This honor is attributed to his commendable efforts in preventing 29 people from attempting suicide since 2015.

Javed is employed by the MTR Elizabeth line, and his vigilance and compassionate approach on platforms at Ealing Broadway and Paddington stations have played a crucial role in averting numerous suicide attempts. His ability to identify and engage with vulnerable individuals stems from the Samaritans training he underwent early in his career.

In expressing his gratitude for the honor, Javed acknowledged the influence of his parents, who instilled in him values of being helpful and charitable. The MBE stands as a significant acknowledgment of Javed’s dedicated services, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact on the well-being of individuals in distress.
