Pakistan’s Kinnow Industry Has Potential to Earn Huge Foreign Exchange

According to Gwadar Pro, the Pakistani kinnow industry made a breakthrough last week when Iran lifted import restrictions on Pakistani kinnow.

Pakistan is one of the world’s leading citrus producers. Citrus accounts for roughly 30% of the country’s overall fruit production. According to a report on the Pakistani citrus industry released by the China-Pakistan Agricultural and Industrial Cooperation Information Platform, Pakistan received the highest export revenue from kinnow last year, totaling $222 million and 370,000 tonnes (CPAIC).

The majority of the citrus fruits produced in Pakistan are consumed in foreign markets, as per the report. Kinnow is the most significant of the exported varieties. Kinnow consistency, on the other hand, is deteriorating as older varieties become obsolete.

There hasn’t been a big advance in kinnow varieties in years. Just 2.6 percent of the export kinnow goes to developing countries, owing to the preference of buyers in these markets for seedless citrus. This pattern is slowly spreading to other parts of the globe.
