Pakistan’s Likely Playing XI for Asia Cup Final Against India

Cricket fans are bracing for a historic showdown at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday where Pakistan and India will meet in the Asia Cup final for the very first time in the tournament’s 41-year history. The stage is set for a high-voltage clash, and both teams are approaching it with contrasting strategies.

According to team insiders, Pakistan are unlikely to tinker with their winning combination sticking to the XI that has carried them successfully through the Super Four stage. The management believes continuity will help maintain momentum heading into the biggest game of the competition.

Sources have ruled out the return of young batter Hasan Nawaz to the lineup, though there is speculation that opener Saim Ayub could see his batting order shuffled to better suit the team’s strategy. A major boost for Pakistan comes in the form of fast bowler Haris Rauf who has been declared fully fit and ready to lead the pace attack alongside Shaheen Afridi.

India, meanwhile, are expected to make calculated changes to the side that faced Sri Lanka in their last Super Four outing. Pacer Arshdeep Singh and young quick Harshit Rana are likely to be rested, paving the way for the return of spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Shivam Dube, both of whom add depth and balance to the team.

Encouragingly for India, their leading run-scorer Abhishek Sharma is fit and firing while middle-order batter Tilak Varma has also cleared his fitness test just in time for the final.

The excitement surrounding this clash extends well beyond the playing field. Since its inception in 1984 in the UAE, the Asia Cup has produced countless memorable moments, but never before have arch-rivals Pakistan and India battled for the title itself. Fans on both sides of the border as well as the wider cricketing world.

History offers a mixed bag for both teams. Pakistan have contested five Asia Cup finals, lifting the trophy in 2000 and again in 2012 while finishing as runners-up on three other occasions including their most recent loss to Sri Lanka in 2022. India, however, have been the tournament’s dominant force, winning eight titles from 11 finals and finishing second three times.

The likely Pakistan XI for the final reads: Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha (c), Hussain Talat, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed.

With history on the line, both sides know the stakes could not be higher. The match is more than just a contest but it is a moment of sporting theatre that promises to be etched in the memory of cricket fans for generations.
