Pakistan’s National Animal Markhor Hunting Permit Sold for Record Rs. 10 Crore

A hunting permit for a Markhor in Gilgit-Baltistan has been sold for a record-breaking amount of PKR 100 million (about 370,000 US dollars). This is the highest price ever paid in Pakistan for such a permit, making it a historic moment in the country’s trophy hunting program.

The permit allows the hunting of an Astor Markhor, a rare wild goat species found in the mountains, within the Nanga Parbat Conservancy area. The buyer was a hunting safari owner who took part in the official auction. The event was organized at the Forests, Parks, and Wildlife Complex, where permits for other rare animals were also offered to interested hunters.

Officials say that the money collected from these hunting permits is often used for wildlife conservation and for supporting local communities living near the habitats of these animals. Trophy hunting is carried out under strict regulations, and only a limited number of permits are issued each year to make sure the species are not threatened.
