PCB Appoints South Africa’s Morne Morkel as Bowling Coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently announced that Morne Morkel, a former South African fast bowler, has been appointed as the bowling coach for the national team during the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Morkel has joined the team on a six-month contract.

He had a successful international career of over 11 years, taking 309 wickets in 86 Tests, 188 wickets in 117 ODIs, and 47 wickets in 44 T20Is. His last international match was in September 2017 for the World XI against Pakistan in Lahore.
Along with Morkel’s appointment, the PCB has also announced the 16-member squad for the Test series, which includes the return of fast bowler Shaheen Afridi.

The squad includes Mohammad Huraira, a newcomer in batting, and Aamir Jamal, an all-rounder, making it Pakistan’s first assignment in the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

The Pakistan team will assemble in Karachi on July 3 for a training camp before traveling to Sri Lanka on July 9. The detailed schedule of the tour will be announced by Sri Lanka Cricket in the near future. The last Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka occurred in July 2022 and ended in a 1-1 draw.
