The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Irtaza Kumail as the new manager of the Pakistan national cricket team, ahead of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series in Bangladesh. He replaces Naveed Akram Cheema, who has served the team in several roles but will not be traveling with the squad for this tour.
Irtaza Kumail, an 18th-grade police officer, has been working with the national side as the team’s security manager for the last two years. In his new role as manager, he will take on additional responsibilities, including overseeing administrative matters and ensuring smooth coordination between players, support staff, and the PCB during the tour.
Alongside him, Salman Liaquat will join the team as a security officer. This will be his first tour with the senior national side, supporting the team in safety and security arrangements.
The Pakistan squad is scheduled to leave for Bangladesh on March 8 after completing a two-day training camp. Foreign coaching staff is expected to join the team in Dhaka ahead of the matches.
PCB officials said these changes aim to strengthen team management and ensure proper support both on and off the field.
Analysts note that appointing experienced security personnel to managerial roles reflects the board’s focus on safety, organization, and efficient administration for international tours.
