The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent a termination notice to the Multan Sultans franchise after accusing the team of violating contract terms. The move follows repeated public statements by team owner Ali Tareen, which the PCB described as critical and against league rules.
According to PCB officials, the franchise’s comments about the board’s policies and management were seen as damaging to the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) image.
They said that despite earlier warnings, the team continued to make public remarks, leaving the board with no choice but to take disciplinary action.
The PCB’s official statement confirmed that Multan Sultans’ participation in the upcoming PSL season has been suspended pending review, and further legal proceedings will determine the outcome. The notice also reminded all franchises that public criticism of the board violates contractual clauses agreed upon before every season.
In response, Multan Sultans issued a statement calling the PCB’s decision “outrageous and unfair.” The team defended Ali Tareen’s remarks as constructive feedback meant to improve league management and fan experience, not to disrespect the PCB.
Cricket fans have been divided over the issue, with some supporting the PCB’s stance on discipline, while others believe that open dialogue should be allowed for the betterment of the league.
Sources suggest that discussions between PCB officials and franchise representatives may be held soon to resolve the matter.
For now, Multan Sultans’ fate in the PSL remains uncertain as the situation develops.
