According to the latest news, the Gaddafi Stadium, which houses the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offices, is set to be renamed after former Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi.
PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja verified the news, saying that officials were in talks with a number of sponsors and also, the highest bidder will get the stadium named after him
“We acquired YouGov to evaluate the brand value of our stadium and how much sponsorship deals it would be worth,” the PCB chairman said.
Furthermore, Ramiz stated that once sponsors are found, the National Stadium in Karachi and another important cricket venue may be renamed. He further added that the objective for changing a stadium’s name will be financial rather than political.
However, efforts to modify the stadium’s name have also been attempted in the past, but it was of no use. During Muammar Gaddafi’s visit to Pakistan, he advocated for Pakistan’s right to develop nuclear weapons at the Organization of Islamic Conference, and the stadium was named after him.
