Petrol and diesel prices are expected to come down by Rs. 12 per litre starting April 16, 2025. This possible price cut is due to a major drop in global oil prices.
Brent crude oil, which is a global benchmark for oil prices, has recently fallen from $74.95 to $60.12 per barrel. This big decline in prices on the international market has led to early estimates that petrol prices in Pakistan might go down to Rs. 242 per litre, while diesel could drop to around Rs. 250 per litre.
Although the final prices will be officially announced by the Ministry of Energy, this expected decrease is already being seen as a positive development. It brings much-needed relief to the general public, especially at a time when many are struggling with rising costs and inflation.
Last month, there was only a small reduction of Rs. 1 in fuel prices, which didn’t make much of a difference for most people. But this upcoming drop could help reduce transport costs, lower prices of daily goods, and ease financial pressure on households and businesses.
Fuel prices in Pakistan are directly linked to international oil rates. So, whenever oil becomes cheaper globally, there’s a chance for local prices to go down as well. However, experts warn that global oil markets can be unpredictable, and things can change quickly depending on world events.
For now, this expected cut in petrol and diesel prices is a welcome change. It could help improve the overall mood of the economy and give people a little breathing room in their monthly expenses.
