Motorists across Pakistan might get some good news as fuel prices are expected to come down from August 1, 2025. According to a report by Arif Habib Limited (AHL), the cost of petrol and diesel is likely to decrease slightly, providing some relief to people facing high living expenses.
The expected reduction is about Rs6.82 per liter for petrol (Motor Spirit) and Rs1.68 per liter for High-Speed Diesel (HSD). If the new prices are approved, petrol could be sold at nearly Rs265.33 per liter, while diesel might cost around Rs282.67 per liter.
This possible cut comes mainly because global oil prices have dropped. From July 16 to 31, Brent oil averaged around $68.75 per barrel, while WTI crude oil was about $65.98 per barrel. The exchange rate during this period stayed close to Rs284.25 per US dollar, which also helped stabilize fuel import costs.
However, the government is planning to add a petroleum levy of Rs2.50 per liter on both petrol and diesel. This means that while the base price will drop, the final benefit for consumers might be a bit less than expected.
Still, even a small decrease in fuel rates is welcome news for many drivers, transporters, and small businesses who have been struggling with rising costs for months.
People are now waiting for the official announcement to see exactly how much they will save when they fill up their tanks in August.
