The Philippines has officially introduced a Digital Nomad Visa (DNV), marking a significant step towards positioning the country as a hub for remote work and global talent. The program, created under Executive Order No. 86 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., allows qualified foreign nationals to live in the Philippines while working remotely for companies or clients based abroad.
Program Launch
The Digital Nomad Visa was rolled out in mid-2025, with applications now open through the government’s e-Visa platform. Designed to attract professionals in the digital economy, the scheme is part of the government’s wider efforts to boost tourism revenue, promote sustainable growth, and encourage longer stays in the country.
Eligibility
To qualify for the visa, applicants must be at least 18 years old, employed or contracted by foreign-based companies, and capable of demonstrating stable foreign income — estimated at a minimum of US $24,000 annually. Other requirements include valid health insurance, a clean criminal record, and proof that the applicant will not work for any Philippine-based employer. The visa is available to nationals of countries that extend similar digital nomad opportunities to Filipinos.
Visa Features
The visa permits an initial stay of 12 months, with the option to renew for an additional year, allowing a maximum of two years in total. It also provides multiple-entry privileges, enabling holders to travel in and out of the country without applying for additional tourist visas. Importantly, foreign-earned income of visa holders will not be taxed in the Philippines, though applicants must remain compliant with tax laws in their home countries.
Application Process
The process is primarily digital, but certain cases may still require in-person verification at Philippine embassies or consulates. Processing times are expected to range between six and twelve weeks, with visa fees projected to fall between US $200 and US $300.
Opportunities and Challenges
The Philippines is marketing itself as an affordable and attractive base for digital nomads, offering warm hospitality, diverse culture, tropical landscapes, and widespread English proficiency. The government hopes that long-term stays by remote professionals will contribute to local economies, particularly in tourist destinations. However, reliable internet connectivity remains a challenge in some remote areas, which could affect the choice of settlement for digital workers.
