Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is expected to restart and expand its international flight operations this year. This may also include bringing back flights to the United States, officials told the Senate Standing Committee on Privatization.
According to the officials, PIA’s recent improvement on UK and European routes has shown positive results. These better performances have increased confidence and opened the door for launching flights to new international destinations.
The government believes that privatizing PIA will bring in around Rs55 billion. This move is seen as an important step to stop the heavy financial burden on the national airline. For many years, the government has been providing bailouts of around Rs50 to 60 billion every year to keep PIA running.
By improving operations and moving toward privatization, the government hopes PIA can become financially stable, reduce losses, and operate as a more efficient airline in the future.
