Social media use is governed by laws in the UAE to protect users’ privacy and safety throughout the country.
These national regulations give all people and media organisations a framework for using social media websites and mobile applications without harming others or the nation.
Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has cautioned citizens against showing immoral behaviour on social media platforms, such as verbal abuse, insults, and so on, that can lead to someone’s defamation.
Speaking about the issue, Col. Omar Ahmed Abu Al Zawd, Director of the CID, emphasised the importance of behaving properly and positively on digital platforms and stated that the police take strict action against those who misuse the platform.
According to Article 20 of the UAE Cyber Crime Law, anyone found to be defaming another person or posting something derogatory would be sentenced to jail time and pay a fine between AED250,000 and AED500,000.
