PM Sends Summary to President for Appointing Field Marshal as Chief of Defense Forces

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded a formal summary to the President recommending the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces. If approved, he will hold this new position for five years while continuing to serve as the Chief of Army Staff.

The government has also decided to grant Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu an additional two-year extension. This extension will begin after the completion of his current five-year tenure in March 2026.

These decisions reflect the government’s plan to strengthen military leadership and ensure continuity in key defence roles.
