Careem Pakistan, a popular app for booking rides, has stirred up a lot of trouble and upset the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) party because of something it posted on the social media site X. On Wednesday, Careem wrote a message that got deleted later. It said, “program warr gaya,” which some people found offensive and linked to Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who is now Vice-President.
Even though the original message is gone, people are still sharing screenshots of it on social media. PMLN quickly reacted on Twitter, saying bad things about Careem’s message and accusing the company of caring more about politics than providing good service. They even started a hashtag called BoycottCareem, asking people to stop using Careem.
Later, Careem shared a video promoting their service with a new message, “ab har program ko paka karao, ride ko advance main book karao!” But many people on Twitter didn’t like that Careem was getting involved in politics and asked them to stay out of it and be more careful about what they say because it can upset the whole country.
